Ireland 2008

The ireland trip got underway on Saturday and the intrepid 5 made the epic journey in the fast cat across the irish sea. After a 99 minute crossing with 'interesting' swell and 20knot winds it was a fun crossing. After a 5 hour drive we arrived safely in Dingle and to our cottage.

Day one saw superb westerlies and blue skies and we hit Brandon bay ubtil the tide came in. With Dave 'Le Gatteau' Reynolds, Big Craig and Bernie 'Himm' Jenner having the whole stretch of a clear 6 miles of hard sand to play with there was plenty of fun to be had.  Fishy Pete was out enjoying the waves and had to land his kite on the rocks as there was no sand left. The day ended with a great dinner in town and some sleepy and aching bodies hitting the beds early.

Day two has been a very different day with 40knots plus and driving rain. It has been a full on storm weather. The wind has kicked our asses all day and when the rain finally dissapeared there was no beach so we had a play on the small buzzes in the field behind the cottage.

The rest of the week has seen some varying conditions, from 40knots through to absolutely nothing. We have made the most of the sessions and everyone has been riding and pushing their level.

Friday saw long runs the full length of inch beach with howling 30-45mph winds. Small kites and fast speed were the result. A great week for all and with plenty of pics and videos we will be updating with the latest shots as we get them.

For now check out the trips gallery and see what we have been up to.

Go well,

Adam

Brazil Trip Review

Well the Turbulence team are all back from the Brazil mission. We had an epic time with some unreal conditions, some great mates and some superb kiting.

We had lots of adventures and a huge thanks to Henry and the R&D boys at flexifoil who invited Hoggy and myself along.

Brazil was amazing and we are already planning a trip back to Brazil in 2008. If you want to see what the conditions were like then have a look at our you tube videos page to see the 2 new videos from Brazil. Warning, they will make you want to visit it. Click here to check out the videos.

So with lots of broken camera kit, boards and kites we are now attempting to repair as much as possible very slowly as we are all finding it a little cold in the UK.

It is genuinely nice to be back and we would like to take this opportunity to wish all our customers and friends a very merry christmas and a happy new year.

Check out the images on the trips gallery.

Go well,

Ireland trip review

A full week of wind and waves. The conditions were epic, the waves were awesome. With 14 riders the week saw some highlights and some dark nights.

The water and weather conditions were very favourable over the week and some of the guys who were new to waves took to it really well and really quickly. Bruce, Richie, Phil, Whaller, John C , Pedro and Big Ian were all soon getting comfortable in the swells.

Andy, Hoggy, and Stevo were loving it in the bigger sections, with Hoggy pewrforming all his freestyle antics between the waves and 'The Duke' ripping the faces apart.

Young Blake also had a couple of good sessions and managed to get up and riding in the difficult conditions for learners.

We managed some sessions with Irelands own Ryan Cootes, and got the priveledge of watching him showing off his strapless skills. An awesome sight to behold you might say. Some other old school kiting celebs were also in the area with Ben Handbury showing his stuff and Flexi distributor Jeff Williams showing his old school style silky wave riding skills, whilst trying to keep the family happy.

The trip left many an unhappy face on the following Monday morning in work as the guys were sat at their desks wondering how the week was going to pan out after a week of waveriding. I think there were a few people considering career changes on Tuesday.

So our next trip to Ireland is in February when it gets really cold.

Ireland day 2&3

Day 2 in Ireland saw a windy wavy day. The gang headed for Brandon bay after a short morning at Inch. The wind picked up well and we joined the bank holiday crowd of 10 locals on the water for a session.
The waves were fierce and some big slaps came our way as Brandon bay showed many what it could do.

With our tails well and truly wetted we headed back for an evening in with a large meal and some wine to finish it off with.

Day 3 saw very little wind so a tourist detour was in order. However this soon diverted when we found some swell at Slea Head and Stevo and Pedro hopped in the water for a paddle. The afternoon was spent at Brandon Bay with some body boarding and long board action. At the end of the afternoon the wind filled in a little and The Duke went out for an offshore hour of wave heaven. He spent the rest of the evening telling anyone who would listen how epic it was.

More wind for tomorrow hopefully so a day in the westerlies again.

Go well,

Add

Ireland day 1

The Ireland wave trip started with a rough ferry crossing. The crossing brought a few rough stomachs and a few dodgy faces.
Once accross the pond we set about the task of the travelling the width of Ireland. With an irish bank holiday it turned into quite a long drive.

After finally arriving and managing to locate the accomodation and some food for the evening we settled in for an early start for the first day.

With the change of the clocks we were at the beach for 7.30am and Inch greeted us with good swell and solid 20knots of breeze. We spent the morning easing ourselves into an inch session and enjoying the waves and wind. The wind gradually increased and we all ended on small kites, with Hoggy being last man out on a 7m Atom.

After a hearty lunch we made our way to Brandon for a proper wave session. The cross shore wind was ideal, if a little gusty, and the boys ripped up the afternoon in the testing swell at Brandon. We were joined at the end of our session with the prescense of Ben Handbury and Ryan Cootes. They both ripped it up on surfboards and we enjoyed watching the show, especially when Ben got munched by a rather large set and snapped a line. Always nice to see a man down and swimming! Luckily he arrived back at the beach and was all fine, as were his kite and board.

There are a couple of picks on the home page and I will upload more tomorrow.

Go well,

Adam

BKSA Round 7 – Hayling Island – the Final

The seventh and final round of the British Kite Surfing Association was held at Hayling Island from the 5th to 7th October.  The Grand Prix series has taken its participants to many spectacular kitesurfing locations across the UK over the last 7 months.  The tour has been blessed with a variety of conditions across the country, from epic flat water conditions at Littlehampton to beautiful 11 mile long beaches in Aberdeen to big waves in Watergate Bay, Cornwall.
The final, unfortunately, did not deliver the wind that was needed and it was a quiet final event.  Phil Elborough from Zero Gravity had organised an excellent event site along with the Inn on the Beach at Hayling Island West Beach.  Despite the lack of wind, there was plenty of action.  Kites were pumped for the locals and public to check out, the new Flexifoil Atom 08 making its début appearance at the BKSA events.  BKSA Colyn, Phil and Julien got the zap cat and jet ski on the go for wakeboarding and Bill from Jimmy Lewis UK had a range of stand up paddleboards to play on.
The Saturday night end of year Kiteworld and BKSA party went off with a bang as usual with the Inn on the Beach being an excellent location with beautiful views out across the solent.  The preview of Ben Wilson’s new movie ‘The ’ was shown followed by buffet and music.  The year went out with a bang with an wonderful night had by all.
The final prize giving for the year was held on the Sunday.  The Turbulence team did really well in several categories.  Johara won the Pro Ladies, Marizu came third in the Seniors, Ali Barrett came fifth in the Pro Men after juggling both the PKRA and BKSA tour and Martyn Hogg achieved a podium placing in Round 6 at Littlehampton after breading his leg at the beginning of the year.
A big thank you to Richard, Phil, Glen, Colin and Julian at the BKSA for organising an awesome 2007 tour.  To Expics for doing a wonderful job of getting kitesurfing on the map with the Press, an excellent job for the sport and for the riders.  And of course to the riders and their sponsors as the tour wouldn’t happen without them.  Thank you to all and see everyone next year!

Ali and Johara's Last week in Fuerte

So the PKRA was over and we decided to head North to escape the super gusty cross off Sotavento and the party tent! We drove up with nowhere to stay and just planned to check out a few apartment places and find a room. We checked out quite a few places in cotillo while andy and lighty checked out loads of places in corrolejia but everywhere was fully booked up. Danny Seales had been really good sorting out Lewis and Aaron an apartment to stay in but also couldnt find another place for us to stay in. To take our mind of things we went for a session at cotillo with danny, jason. aaron, lewis and anyone else who was rocking up at the beach. Had a really sweet 7m session
with some big waves which we all got munched in a few times and sent through the washing machine. Jason and danny were tairing up the waves on the inside while jo, aaron, lewis and i were sorting out the freestyle side of things further out. After the session we went for a beer in a random pub whilst trying to think what to do about accomodation. Andy and Lighty decided to go back down to
the south and stay in the bungaloos which we had been staying in before. Jo, Ian and I just went out into town with Danny, Stav Jason Aaron and Lewis with the plan of staying with Aaron and lewis for the night. After a nice lie in on tuesday morning we headed up to flag beach for a
session. We cruised up to the beach to what felt like nice 11m weather and wondered why most of the kites were still on the beach. It soon came apparrent when we got onto the water. The wind was super up and down. We
would be powered for about 5 minutes and then you would have 5mins of not moving and just drifting around in the water. Add to that hundred of stegasaurus type rocks and you have the combo for an aweful sail. The wind was more onshore than usual so there were much more waves and it was just busy when everyone was out. Lewis had his first session  with bindings on his board but he just ended up struggling being underpowered. I had a few big flat 3s off the waves but that was about it.

On wednesday morning the plan then was to go to the small pictoresque lagoons on the north coast with ian, Mr chimsee and also the chimsee photographer for a photoshoot. Jo Ian and Aaron headed of to the spot while lewis and i sorted out selves out. We soon got a text saying that we didnt have a pump at all as it had been lost. The others had to go back to town to try and find a pump. Jo had spotted a man walking past with 2 pumps under his arms so offered to buy one off him, but he showed her the shop to buy them from. Result. THey did the photoshoot on this tiny lagoon with hardly any water but it looked nice. The
photographer wanted one shot only so he was just doing the same thing over and over again. Thankfully that ended soon and we went for a  session again at cotillo. It was really gusty 11 weather though so wasnt very fun.Only just powered in the gusts. Jo took a few pictures and then tried to get out on her 8.5 but it just wasnt enough for her, so we headed home. Thursday arrived and team turbulence decided to go on a mission down the west coast of the island to find a decent spot which was sandy and not
gusty. We drove miles down the coast stopping at a few spots, all of which were windy, but all of them were rocky launches. They both had wicked waves but there was only a very small place to set up and launch. If you couldnt
keep upwind at all, it would be miles to the next place to come in, with cliffs all the way down. Eventually we sacked it off and just went back to cotillo for a session again.

I am now back from my rescue Lighty and Andy mission so will tell you about Friday!  Lewis and Aaron had lots to sort out and we could spy a couple of kites out at Flag beach from our apartment, so Ali n I headed down!  The wind had switched round more Northerly which is apparently the usual cross off direction at Flag. It looked beautiful, clear clear turquoise flat water with Lobos island as the backdrop.  So we decided to share the 12.5 Ion2 and
take pics.  We both had such a good day!  We were the only ones going up wind, the 12.5 rocks! We were both landing things again and enjoying the warm water crashes!  Jimmy Lewis Park REALLY made my day, so smooth to land!  It was perfect conditions for the board as was flat and is bigger than the Sister board so really helped in the light winds. The tide was going out, the beach was filling up, Aaron and Lewis came for a session and a lot of the PKRA gang that were still on Fuete.  Epic sessions!  I was getting a bit excited trying new tricks, suddenly lost power in the kite and it plummeted to the water, lines attaching themselves firmly round the base of a windsurf mast!  Hm, nice!  so i pulled the quick release but the kite was still powering toward the large volcanic rock down wind!  The
windsurfer let go and i got rid of the whole lot as the whole shabang neared the narly rocks!  I cringed as my baby 12.5 bounced across into the middle of the rocks dragging the windsurfer after it!  I managed to get to the windsurfer and clung to it until someone held it for me and i made for the
kite scrambling across tretcherous rocks.  Ali met me there and we deflated the kite and retrieved the bar and lines.  We scrambled back and i found the poor windsurfer named Carlos.  I was very very apologetic!  He was fine with
it and just relieved no one was hurt!  Just one panel on his rented sail was ripped so I went and sorted that out with him then surveyed my kit. Amazingly, magically, everything was fine!!!  Couldn't believe it!  That was really the hashest test on kite!  So I pumped up and went out for my last session of the day!!  Excellent! I packed up, tired from our full day, and headed for the rental car.  Got to the road and was really confused as I was sure I'd left it there but its
definately not!  Hm, interesting!  I trudged up and down the line of cars wondering if i was just having a really blonde moment!  I found Aaron and discovered that Lewis had lost their car key so had taken my car to go to the rental office to get another one!  All good!!  Eventually back to our plush pad to recover before a night out with Danny Seales, which needs some real mental preparation! A great night resulting in climbing trees and landrovers followed, interesting!

Saturday I went on a rescue mission as Lighty and Andy were stranded at the airport as they'd had their rental car taken off them! Lighty, Aaron and Lewis caught their flight and Andy and I took their little car and headed back North to re group with Ali B! so the last chapter of this epic journey is upon us!  We are sat, chilling in the apartment thinking how peaceful it is now and we are back to the original three!  Its amazing how many different chapters there can be in a 3 week trip!  So the next few days we are going to session Flap beach, kite till we drop!  And then we will see you all back at Westy for a session next week!

Take care all :-)

Johara and Ali report from the PKRA in Fuerteventura part 2

After a styfliing wait to register in 47 degrees on Monday we headed out later to the opening ceremony.  Was great a great vibe as everyone was stoked to be there.  Ali and I awaited high tide that night as we really wanted a midnight 3m session on the lagoon, but the tide took too long so we
just couldn't wait till 4 in the morning! Tuesday morning was the course rave event with about 33 kties missioning round the course!  There were quite a few hectic wipe outs in the crazy gusty offshore conditions.  Ali did really well as his dinghy racing skills came into their own!  I was really enjoying it and had got in front of couple of the speed guys after the upwind leg when my back decided it had had enough and i had to drop back!  UK chick Steph Bridge did really well and won the first course races, finishing second overall for the week. The freestyle then followed.  There were quite a few issues for team GB!  Ali and I had kite mares in our first heats, Lewis Crathern lost his kite before he'd even hit the water in a big gust and had to grab another and pulled off a good heat to go throught to the second round as did brits Jo Wilson and Aaron.
As the heats were finished off for the day, Ali, Andy Hoolie Hurst and myself decided to have another session.  Super gusty off shore, i was maxed on my 6m Ion2, the boys were on 9meters!  Andy crashed his kite and it ripped in half about a mile out.  So Ali was a hero and dragged Andy and board back from over a mile out back upwind!  Andy was so happy to be alive! Wednesday morning there were two more course races then the end of the singles freestyle.  Jo Wilson go knocked out int eh 2nd heat but was stoked as a banner had been prepared for her out of a bed sheet saying 'Jo Wilson is a legend'!  Aaron had a bit of a kite mare and lost his singles final to Kevin Langree.  The 1st four rounds of the doubles followed and Ali B took his heat by storm!  The whole beach was going mad!  He flew in and threw a huge kung fu pass in front of the judging tower. Then pulled a blind judge, slim chance, two mega loops, a KGB to kiteloss followed by a run up the beach to grab another kite the beach crew had quickly grabbed together he pulled out a one footer and deadman in the last minute!  What a star! Thursday finished off the doubles.  I lost my doubles heat to Jalou Langree, I managed a few things in the crazy gusts but Jalou pulled out a railey to
blind to take the heat. Ali did really well in the next heat but didnt make it.  The whole experience of the PKRA is awesome.  It was definatley the right move for Ali and myself to do two PKRA this year as there is a lot to
get used to.  Not only the standard but the way the heats are judged differs a lot from what we are used to, the judges are looking for different things.  We've found all the other riders super friendly and just cant wait to train this winter and then to be able to do more PKRA events next year. We now have a week and a half to travel round the island and train.  So we checked out a wave spot on the south east side which was awesome and are now moving to the north of the island to check out more spots! Miss you all lots and hope August brings some good Westy sessions for you all

Stevo Takes another podium position

The Turbulence downhill ATB team have been grabbing some more excellent results at the latest round of the ATBA UK championships.

The latest round took place at the SWMBC Big Sheep centre in North Devon and featured riders from all over the world. The event suffered from the recent downpours with the Saturday night Fat Face event being put off till the Sunday but the main Tour event took place in hardcore conditions.

With 166 riders competing in the Open downhill race Turbulence rider Noggin managed to finish an excellent 9th place , only narowly missing out on the final after some unlucky wheel touching in the semi.

Turbulence freestyle star Stevo managed to take his second podium finish in a row with another awesome 3rd spot. His smooth backside 360's and huge tweaked airs once again entertained the judges and the crowd.

A huge congratulations to Noggin and Stevo and a massive thanks to the rest of the crew who went all the way down to wet Devon to support them.

Johara and Ali report from the PKRA in Fuerteventura

So Ali Barrett and Johara decided to join the other UK riders at the PKRA Freestyle event in Fuete.  We decided to go a few days early to aclimatise and get ready for the event.  We also couldn't find any flights back sooner than the 15th August so we're having to stay here and train till then!!  What a pain!!

So we met up at the airport with superstar Jo Wilson, Ian Expics and Andy Hoolie Hurst.  We headed straight to the beach at Sotovento and headed out for a maxed off shore session.  The kite speed event was just finishing and the windsurfing freestyle was just starting so it was all action!  We searched out speed riders Dave Williams, Lighty and Sjouke and hunted out a sweet little apartment to stay in.

We had a mission to the north coast for a bit of an explore.  No wind at Flag Beach so we carried on round to Corralejo which turned out to be an epic cross on session with big mean waves (I thought so!!) along with Tom Court and Suzi Mai which was wicked to watch!

Saturday brought a baking hot day with no wind.  So we chilled by the pool till late afternoon when the trees seemed to be moving a bit again.  So we jumped in the car and headed down to Sotovento.  When we got out the car we actually were nearly blown off the cliff just holding boards, crazy!! So out came the 3m Atom and we were on it! It was bang off shore with just a couple of the windsurfers ripping.  It was an epic session as Ali, Andy and myself took it in turns!  Ali pulling out some awesome kiteloops on the awesome little kite!  Thats it, I've decided if its not 3m Atom weather I'm just not going out!

So we are all ready for the start of the PKRA Freestyle and we'll keep you posted :-)

Ali Barrett reports on his first PKRA event in Cabarete, Dominican Republic

Ali meets Andre Phillipe in Cabarete

Well the Cabarete mission started on the Monday night when Hoggy picked me up from Blackpool after visiting Doncaster the day after the Hunstanton event. We then set of in the Subaru/Mondeo down to Turbulence to sort out some gear and pic up some spares.

On the Wednesday morning we left for Heathrow airport to catch out flight in the afternoon. That would only be the first of our 3 flights to get to Dom Rep. Our cheap tickets would take us from Heathrow to New York where we would stay over night in the airport, then onto Miami and finally onto Dom Rep followed by a cab to Cabarete where we would meet up with Jo Wilson.

Thankfully these flights went flawlessly and we managed to get there without any delays, more than which can be said for the way home but more on that later.

We arrived at Dom Rep and out came our luggage. Hoggys 2 coffin bags came out and so did my board bag, but no sign of my kite bag. DAMN. Waited around till the end but nothing ever came. I wasn’t the only person thankfully, 3 other people had lost their bags. Spoke to this random guy at the desk and he said that they would be here in 2 hours and that I could either wait for them or they would be delivered to our hotel. I was rather sceptical about this but I agreed to have them delivered as we wanted to go to the beach, get settled and go kiting.

The taxi to the Cabarete was awesome as you saw kites all the way down the coast. Got to the beach and it was capping like a bi-atch. 7m weather already. Thankfully I had packed my 7m along with my bar in my board bag, so I could go kiting.

I took out my 7m Slingshot Fuel and Hoggy took out his 7m Flexifoil Atom 2 proto. The session started off well until my 3rd trick, where I went for a dangle pass but let go of the bar and managed to release my leash at the same time which resulted in me have a 20ft freefall out the sky. Jo was just upwind of me pissing herself as I “Cart wheeled” to the water. First swim in of the holidays from quite a way out back. It was okay though as the water was sooo hot. This is the first place I’ve been to where you actually sweat in the water. Its MAD.

Well this wasn’t the only time I lost my kite. I continued and racked up a record breaking 15 losses of kite in the first 3 days. I think I could have taken the title for most reckless kiter on the beach, which is quite impressive for Cabarete.

Over the next few days, more and more of the world top riders came out, Aaron, Kevin, Youri, Rocky, Renou blahblahblah. You get the picture.

It was awesome being out on the water with these guys. The competition area construction was also started on the beach and lots of scaffolding was put up to construct the judges tower.

The following Tuesday was registration day and then the competition started on the Wednesday. By then all my kites had arrived, luckily. There were 36 registered for the comp but with only 32 places it meant that they had to do qualifiers. They just put everyone who had not been in a PKRA event before in the qualifiers, which included me. Not sure who I was up against but I won my heat so I automatically qualified which I was stoked with.

Once the qualifiers had been run, the main event was started. In my first heat I was up against Papito Delacruz which I went on to win. I then went up against Kev Langeree. World number 3. Well I was beaten, but I’m pleased to say I did a 360 deadman in my heat for a laugh haha. So that was the end of my single elimination.

In the double elims I went up against Reno Romeo. I thought I could win the heat but I ended up having a mare. Put up my 7 when I easily should have been on my 9m and I was also on 20m lines which I had never used before because my other bar had been nicked. AAAAAAHHHHHHHHH

So I was beaten. Would have only needed to do like a couple more tricks and I would have won. Really annoying but that’s life.

Well that was the end of my PKRA competition which was kind of good because it meant I could jus go riding and watch the rest of the competition which was wicked.

After the comp basically all of the tour flew off out to Tarifa and left a select few of us as Carabete. It was really nice because the beaches were now a lot quieter. We just went out for sessions at bozo beach along with La Boca(flat water rivermouth) and kitebeach(just downwind). I had some good sessions and learnt some tricks in the horrid choppy waters but this is good because I will be able to tricks back home way easier.

Well after a lot of kiting and partying our time in Cabarete was up. It was time to go home. Again we had 3 flights but this time it didn’t all go to plan. Our first flight to Miami was on time but our second flight was delayed about 3-4 hours which meant we missed our connection in New York. Also in NY we were waiting at passport control for over an hour. That place is awful. Then we had another overnight stay at New York waiting for our flight in the morning. We even got sniffered by some police sniffer dogs. Must have been Hoggys hippy hair hahaha. Eventually we got home and the trip ended. Quite pleased to be home and cant wait for a sail on home turf.

The next trip is already planned and im going to Fuerte with fellow Turbulence team rider and leading BKSA PRO Woman Johara. Can’t wait. They had it large in Tarifa and I hope that Fuerte will be the same.

Important Kitejam 2007 Announcement

After 3 years of wonderful events and competition Kitejam 2007 will not be running this year. A number of issues and situations have led to this decision which has been a difficult one to make.

Adam is also facing his own battles this year with health issues and therefore does not have the time and motivation that an event like Kitejam needs and deserves.

We would like to thank all those riders and friends who made it to Kitejam over the last 3 years, without you guys and girls kitejam wouldn’t exist.

2008 will bring new opportunities and challenges for all of us and we will look at running a new event then.

We wish everyone all the best for 2007 and hope you all enjoy yourselves at whatever events you attend during this year. We would like to also thank all our sponsors for their support over the last 3 years including Dirty Dog, Indo Board, Winddesigns, Flexifoil, Buff, Trampa,  Conwy County Council and the European Events Commission.

Many thanks to all and good luck for the year

Team Turbulence score a podium result

The team Turbulence downhill mountainboard team attended the first event of the year last weekend at Haredown mountain board centre. The event went well and with some of the team nursing injuries picked up over the winter break there was only one of our riders competing.

Stevo Evans whipped some huge airs and massive switch tricks on the 3 freestyle ramps. Stevo had a huge range of backside 360's and boned grabs and grabbed the judges wttention with his amplitude and style as usual.

Stevo managed to finish 3rd overall and hit a podium spot for the first time. A huge congratulations to Stevo and a massive thanks to the rest of the downhill team for attending the event and supporting him as usual. Photos came from our own Noggin.

Turbulence Angels with new Sponsors

The Turbulence Angels have been busy planning their year and with Angel Johara back from Morocco and competing in the BKSA tour, the angels have looked to their events.

The Angels have some new support this year. After a busy winter the girls have now been fully pimped out with clothing by Protest and will be displaying their togs wherever they go. Many thanks to Meena at Protest UK who has been sorting the girls out with lots of goodies for the events, as well as their clothes. - Click here to see the Protest site

This has given the girls everything they need for flying, from land kites to water kites. They are currently riding the phenomenal Flexifoil Ion2’s and the Flexifoil Atom’s. A huge thanks to Theo, Anthony and Charlie at Flexifoil for supporting the girls in this way, with kites that are perfect for their needs. - Click here to see Flexifoil's site

The Angels calendar is already filling up with numerous events around the UK and the first ones are listed below.

Turbulence Angels 2007 diary

NWPKC first night of the year

The North Wales Power Kite club nights start again tomorrow, Wednesday 18/04/07 at Westshore. The popular club nights will be running every week at Westshore from 6-9pm. This year we will be running alternate weeks with the tide. This week is a land week and the forecast is for a light westerly breeze so hopefully we will get some kiting done. They are open to all and for those who aren't members yet the permit system starts in May so get into the shop and see us for details of how it works.

The NWPKC web site is still under repair at the moment so the site is still down but please bear with us and we will fix it as quickly as possible.

New membership cards for 2007 will be available from Friday 20/04/07.

See you all there

Hoggy and Jo are back

After some serious traveling and some medical work Hoggy is finally back in North Wales. Complete with his blue handled Moroccan crutches he is whizzing around with his new chauffer Jo. Jo is back on the water, as the picture shows, and is showing off some of her new tricks.

Jo and Hoggy are back in the UK and are competing in the UK tour for Turbulence and Flexifoil and Hoggy will be back on his Shinn 130 with some slick new passes once he gets his plater off!

You can catch them at the beach or the shop on most days.

Norway monkeys Home Safe and Sound

The Artic Monkeys are now all back home after what was an epic adventure to the frozen wilds of Norway.  We had the customary delays with the ferry needing 4 hours of welding to the front loading bay doors before we were allowed to sail, which after the outbound journey filled everyone with confidence !! The crossing turned out to be calm and sunny, giving everyone time to catch up on must needed sleep and have hours of indo boarding practice on the heli pad.  All that was left was the quick blast on Uk roads back from Newcastle, many swapping of email addresses, and nearly all pre booking their place for next year to the best snow kite location in the world.  For me it was all back to normal with a day in the shop on Saturday, and Sunday on the beach teaching  but with everyone else complaining of the cold and me revelling in the summer warmth of temperatures above freezing that we hadn’t seen for 2 weeks !!

Many thanks to all the Monkeys for making Norway 2007 an adventure to remember with countless stories to tell the grand children.

See you all in Haugastol next year

Turbulence Arctic Monkeys - Day 11

A split in the groups today as the wind forecast was not good and a few fancied a day on the slopes in Geilo and the rest went looking for wind.  They only found a few knots but enough to have a little play to keep the smile on faces, and himm was also spotted doing a bit of downhill (the camera never lies).  The other half of the team had a good afternoon on the slopes with lots of fast runs and virtually no people giving plenty of room for error, which was well needed by most !  Last day tomorrow so we are planning an early start as the forecast is for 10 to 15 mph  southerlies giving a perfect last day at the yellow house.

Turbulence Arctic Monkeys - Day 8

Lots of over night snow led to a late start this morning, waiting for the road to open but from then on what a day.  We have played in 2 locations and had the best winds of the holiday so far  with as good a snow conditions as you could ever wish to find.  We kited till the light went in 15 to 20 mph with untouched powder as far as the eye can see.  Biggest cheer of the day went to Bernie getting going for the first time on his board with the Rage 4.7m as the pictures prove.  Chris left for his new job today and Degsy was resting a twisted knee, but tomorrow will see a full team on the snow with the 2 gps challenge starting to see who is the fastest on the snow.

Turbulence Arctic Monkeys - Day 7

A spot that was an old favourite from last year was the choice of the day, with a big flat section and some nice hills to drop of all around.  A cloudy and windy morning gave everyone a good session with a few people having their first real good blast.  Was good to see Degsy getting going on his venom and Chris getting some good jumps with the x-air on his last day.  The afternoon kept teasing us with blasts of wind but never really filled in leaving a light wind session with people practicing jumping down slopes and off lips.

The forecast is good for the next couple of days with the road fully open, chains off the vans and the sick people back to health we are headed for a good weekend.

Turbulence
Turbulence Arctic Monkeys - Day 6

Bright and early start with the road open and no need to wait for the plough we set off in search of wind.  Not only do we have to find wind because of the massive snow falls we have to find somewhere to park !!  The road is cut out between 10 to 10 ft vertical walls for 25ks with room for parking only were the plough has dug a space.  We found wind in a new spot and had a good session for a couple of hours till the clouds went with the wind and the sun came out.   We travelled to look for wind and ended up at the famous yellow house with still none, so looking for some action as usual, the snow drift up to and on to the roof was used for a good couple of hours fun as you can see in the pics.  Back to the apartments for food, beer and wind dancing !!

Turbulence Arctic Monkeys - Day 5

With no snow overnight we awoke to a glorious morning of  blue skies, sunshine and no wind !!  After the obligatory wait for Mr Plough to lead the way, the convoy left for the short drive to the nearest location known as the dam.  No wind gave everyone a chance to practice their downhill skills on boards and skis, and their fitness levels on the walk up!  The monkeys also had a fairly active day, now they have recovered from the journey and regained their appetite as you can see from the pics!!  The highlight of the day was HIM flying over the jump and getting real air for the first time on his ski/sledge.  By the end of a full day of no snow, or wind the road is finally open so we can drive without a convoy and you never know we might be able to take the chains off the van soon !!  As it was breathless and didn’t get above -10 today we are hoping for a warmer and windier day tomorrow.

FLAMINGOS AND SAND STORMS!

Hi Everyone :)
So we've had some crazy action in Dakhla - couple of days of no wind and 30+ temps, hot springs, flies and flamingos, which quickly turned to days of 35+knots and the Bongo being sand blasted!  The 7m Atom is LOVING it!
Sorry no pictures of maxed kiting sessions but its too windy to hold the camera still!
Thanks to the Sahara Regency Hotel we have recouperated for a night and are now heading back out on a wave and dolphin hunt!

DAKHLA

We made it!  A couple of days on the way down were spent checking out some cool Atlantic coast spots.  There was only a tiny bit of wind, enough for Hoggy to get a fun skim session on the 15m Fusion2 at an awesome beach just north of Sidi Ifni and time to strap the on-board camera to an awesome paragleider called Nigel and bargain for a big super-cheap solar panel which is now firlmly bolted on the Bongo roof!  We then had a couple of days crazy driving to Dakhla as there was a road block so we had to take the Bongo off roading!

We found PK25 on the Dakhla penninsula in the dark and have remained there until we ran out of provisions.  Have had some awesome sessions, the wind usually builds through the day so we have been maxed on the 7m Atom and 9m Fusion2 by the end of the day!  There is so much room on the water, a busy day seems to be 4 windsurfers and 3 kites on the other side of the lagoon!

We have aquired some new kiting spot advice from the very helpful Sahara Regency Hotel and Colin and Freya from Magali Regency Fishing Adventures.  So will keep you posted on the wave spot and 'White Dune'!  Oh and by the way, for all you land lot, there is ENDLESS amounts of hard packed, totally flad sand for MILES!!

Have fun all ;-)

The Dingle Cannonball 2007

Afetr an interesting few cock ups on the journey we eventually got to Dingle, Co. Kerry, Ireland, on Saturday night and have spent the first 2 days waiting for some wind.

Day 1 saw us touring all the usual beautiful spots and grabbing some nice shots of the local surfers at Dumps, Brandon Bay.

With day 2 saw a light 8 mph that kept teasing us to believing it would pick up. We had some buggy session and some wet kites. After a lazy couple of days we are hoping for a session tommorrow as the wind forecast looks better.

Day 3 finally produced the kind of conditions we know this area for. A pretty light wind day but enough for beach and water action. It was a cold one though.

Day 4. Another fun day with some little wind spats  and some pretty heavy duty squalls. While the rest of the UK dealt with snow we had sunshine and hail stones.

Day 5 With some serious conditions forecast we were all pretty hyped and got to the beach to find a good 30-40knots blowing. With some serious swell we hit the water first and then the land. After some wicked kiting we were all knackered

Day 6 saw us at Inch again and cross shore/ Cross off conditions. Real gusty but wicked fun in the waves. Lots of cloud but not much rain so a pleasant day.

Day 7 and an early start to head for Dublin. However Irish ferries once again had issues and we suddenly had 6 hours to kill. After visitng some beaches and grabbing some shots we finally caught the 9pm ferry and arrived in puring rain at 1am in Holyhead.

We have got access to upload throuigh the excellent Old Forge Internet Cafe in Dingle, good coffee too! Always keeps Adam happy when he has laptop, broadband and strong coffee.

Go well,

ATLANTIC COASTOF MOROCCO AND THE HIGH ATLAS MOUNTAINS

Hi Everone :-)

So Morocco is nuts!  The first day we got the ferry across and missioned it from Cueta across to the Atlantic coast and down past Rabat adn Casablanca, negotiating some crazy Moroccan friday night driving to get to Oualidia which we'd been tipped off to have a wicked lagoon.

The next few days we spent checking out spots down the coastline to Essouira.  Some awesome beaches with HUGE swell but we have not been blessed with wind to enjoy them :-(

We missioned it inland, through Marrakesh and into the Atlas mountains and the Ourika Valley, reaching the little ski resort of Oukaimeden through the crazy misty roads.  Did a little snowkiting with the 9m Atom on a flat bit of valley by the village in max 6 knots!  Then headed up the sketchy chair lift to check out the skiing from the 3280metre summit.  Views amazing, snow melting a little.  But we found some wicked little patches and got our snow fix for a while.

But enoughs enough, lets get to the desert!

BYE BYE TARIFA, HELLO MOROCCO!!

So we´ve been in Tarifa a week and everything is now mended  and sorted and ready for the ferry from Algeciras to Ceuta on Friday.

Tarifa has been good with 3 Levente (cross off) days, 2 Poniente(cross on shore) days and 3 not-enough-to-get-out-so-mending-the
-laptop-and-trying-to-learn-Arabic days!

You will be pleased to hear we have only driven from campsite to Tarifa with the boot open once (everything is so wedged in nothing had fallen out!), left the spare keys swinging in the sliding door lock twice and left the bags for the folding chairs dragging behind on the towbar once only!!

So Morocco hear we come!  Now laptop is fixed you can check our progress also on Hoggy´s blog site click here but if there is any mention of exchanging camels send a search party for me!!

Have fun in the snow everyone!

Short stop over in Tarifa

So we´ve been in Tarifa 4 days now while we wait for the laptop fixing materials to arrive, bliss! The wind has been Levente so cross off from the left.  Scary when the wind drops so not venturing far from the beach but wicked fun for playing in the 2ft waves.  I´ve been on my 9m Atom which has been awesome because the wind is a little gusty as its coming over the hills behind the beach so I can cope with the gusts but still get back to the beach!  Hoggy has been on his 12m and 15m Fusion2 with his new 130 Shinn board and skim board when it drops off a bit.  It is amazing how its staying on his feet while he rides the fierce little waves!  I´m sure he must be using a new type of super glue!  Today, Saturday, there is no wind only sun!  There was a 6knt puff for half an hr and we watched some guy struggle with a 20m then it went again!  So I dragged Hoggy on a run on the awesome beach and we awaite the forcasted Poniente wind to blow tomorrow!  Bring it on! More photos of turquoise water on way when laptop feeling better!  Sorry folks, thinking of u!

Hoggy and Jo in Tarifa

So we´ve made it to Tarifa!! 4 days, 40 hours driving and 2800km covered and we´ve got our first awesome session in! The drive was fun, tackling the centre of some huge French cities!  And we have only had a few minor problems!;
- not being able to find the right fitting to get the spare wheel down and swap it, but a phone call on the way to ferry sorted it and we managed to swap them and leave the old wheel at Zoe´s on route!
-the fuse for the cigarette lighter charger and radio going, but we managed to find new one in small French village garage!
-the charger extension doesnt work - ah stupid Halfords!
-the laptop dies and will only start in safe mode´
-the van battery dies but all is ok as we have the solar powered spare battery to get it going again!
-and the laptop dies even more and will not even start in safe mode!!
But now we are in Tarifa, its sunny, warm and windy and all is good!! Sorry folks!!

Moon Beach Rocket Blasta 2005/2006

The results are finally in and after a tense wait the Turbulence team complete the clean sweep at Moon Beach in the rocket blasta. With a year long competition on the lagoons at moon beach there have been many close but after the stunning 7m weather the boys had every day in June the speeds haven't been bettered on kite or sail.

Turbulence Free rider Andy Thompson won the Ams title with a superb 35.5knots and Lukas from Turbulence clocked a woping 34.6 knots to take the pro title. Andy won a new RRD xxxx board for his winning speed. The lagoons at moonbeach have some of the best flat water around and with a good wind direction you can head into the lagoons flat out. The Turbulence trip for Egypt in 2007 will again be to this stunning location. Take at a look at our trips page for more detail.

The Turbulence Team 2007

The first Turbulence Team Trials ran on 04 November and were a great learning experience for all those who attended.

The team has some new members this year and the format of the teams has changed a little. The team will be concentrating on numerous different areas this year. With the teams filming and shooting their way around,2007 will see the team making more online content with photos and more excellent movies.

The kitesurf team will also be hitting the event trail with the BKSA tour with Hoggy, Ali B, Johara and Marizu being joined by Cowboy Steve and Ben. They will be competing in all levels of the BKSA.

Hoggy and Johara will both be a part of the 2007 Flexifoil UK Kitesurf team and will be spending the winter in warmer climates to train for the coming season.

The rest of the team will be spending the winter honing their skills and freeriding abilities throughout the cold UK conditions.

The Turbulence Angels sees another change this year. With Blondie leaving the team to concentrate on her freeriding, Sheryl joins the girls to bring us back to 3. Sheryl’s addition to the team brings a whole ball of energy that is just about working out which direction to put it in. Sheryl and Zoe will be concentrating on their freeriding and building those freestyle skills, whilst Johara will be flying the flag on the competition front.

The Land Kite team has been strengthened with the addition of the legend that is Rob Hills. Rob has been at the forefront of buggy freestyle since day 1 and will be spending the winter in New Zealand. Rob will be back in the new year to come and share some more of his special brand of wisdom and madness with us for the summer.

Phil ‘Flip’ Crierie and Carl ‘999’ Pennington from the land team will be plying their skills around the UK scene at comps and freeride events.

The kite ATB team will be riding their assess off as ever with Tall Paul and Easy both ripping it up all year. They are both becoming quite adept snowkiters too and will be venturing back to Norway in April on the Turbulence snowkite trip.

The downhill ATB team have been given more reign to improve their freeriding skills this year. They will camcordering and photoing as much as they can and the results will be seen on the site.
