SCOTISH SNOW...HOW COULD WE RESIST!
Late last Tuesday evening Hannah Whitley and I were chatting on Facebook when Mark Ward the BKSA race director popped with news of a great day on the slopes... Skiing or snowboarding in Scotland hadn’t even really crossed my mind before...but it didn’t take long before all plans at home were cancelled and I was rooting through cupboards for my ski kit!
By Wednesday evening we were parked up in very, very snowy Aviemoor and tucking ourselves in under numerous layers of bedding in my very chilly van..I really should have finished that roof insulation ages ago!! We woke up Thursday morning to 4 inches of fresh snow, unfortunately the Cairngorm ski centre was shut so we headed out to the Lecht and my first snowboarding experience! The Lecht is great for snowkiting and often windy, unfortunately the visibility was too bad for us to give it shot.
Hannah gave me some pointers and over the first couple of days and Glen Foley was a very patient superstar and spent a couple of hours working on some little exercises to get me going...thanks Glen. New years was spent in a funny little hotel in Strathdon...apparently we were so crazy we weren’t allowed back the following night..the owner had obviously never been to a BKSA event!! After a couple of days at the Lecht we headed over to Glenshee. What an awesome place...

Hannah, Mark Ward and JP Butterworth found themselves some crazy steep drop ins to go hurtling down while I worked on my link turns and tried a few 360 spins. Hannah did however, manage to get me over a kicker on the last day...great fun! We had 3 fab days in Glenshee, great snow, great company and few glasses of wine here and there...awesome! Thanks guys Scotland is definitely the place to be at the mo...only beware Vivaro drivers..they go sideways in snow !!
