The Turbulence store opened in 2002 and has been a roots based kiting store from the start. The store is owned and staffed by Lukas and Adam Jones. The Jones brothers set up Turbulence after years of flying kites on land and kite buggying.
With a background in training the natural first venture was to teach, and the UK Kiting kite academy started in 1998 offering instruction in all aspects of land kiting activities. Originally buggiers, landboards were a natural progression, and offered a range of activities for people to learn. The www.ukkiting.com website started at this time as a way to provide information and show the pictures from the beach.
After a number of years teaching the Turbulence brand and store was born. With the store and brand came a desire and drive to develop kitesports and the Turbulence Academy was born in its entirety.
The store was started out of necessity as the lessons produced lots of people saying "where can I buy a kite from?". The Turbulence store has always been a hardware store, we sell kites and the products that go with them.
Since its origins the industry and store has developed massively. Turbulence now has a large range of team riders and provide products from the latest and greatest manufacturers whilst providing the best levels of service in the industry.
When we say we all kite at Turbulence, we really mean it. We aren’t one of the stores that have staff that have "flown a kite" (2m foil on the beach) and are then qualified to provide details on the latest equipment or trends.
At Turbulence we only sell the products we have used ourselves. That means when we give you advice on a product we know how that product works because we have used it and flown it. We can provide details as we have real in depth knowledge of the product and are brutally honest about things. We see it as your opportunity to talk to real kiters about the products available to them and the service and backup they can expect to go with them.
So get on the phone , email or pop in and see us for a cuppa and a chat.
